Marmaduke is mocking his owner-lady by wearing the same ridiculous hat she has on. Refusing to let herself be baited by Marmaduke's shit-eating grin, she asks her daughter to put another hat on him before they go on their walk and Marmaduke has the chance to humiliate the owner-lady in public.
